About The Ordinary Cook

Welcome to the website of the Ordinary Cook. I want this site to inspire you to enjoy cooking.

I love to cook.  I learned to cook from watching and helping my mum and I have developed my cooking knowledge by cooking for myself and my family on a daily basis.

I love cookbooks and I am often found with my head buried in a recipe book.  I use these recipes to inspire me. I experiment with and adapt recipes.

We are lucky enough to live in a rural spot and we keep chickens and have a veg patch, so my recipes also reflect what is available to us from the garden.

I have two girls who have helped me cook since they were old enough to stand on a chair to reach the worktop. They love helping to make cakes and prepare the dinner.  They won’t always eat the dinner after they have prepared it, but I hope that by teaching them how to cook they will one day soon enjoy a varied diet…

I call myself the Ordinary Cook because I am far from a trained chef, but I am an enthusiastic home cook.  I try to make tasty, economical and mostly seasonal meals.

I hope you enjoy them.

Brilliant, I look forward to hearing about what you are cooking . I am sure you will need some recipes for eggs if not for olives…

Cottage pie is easy enough for even me!

I could be in trouble with the damson vodka though but I’m certainly going to give it a go…….
